Conference “Resiliencia y Solidaridad: Encuentro Con la Diáspora” in Puerto Rico

In June, NYDIS’ evacuee services staff, Boris Martinez, Lilah Mejia, and Meryl Hulse joined human services providers, activists and grassroots organizations at the “Puerto Rico Puerto Ricans – Resiliencia y Solidaridad” conference at the University of Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras de la UPR. Boris spoke on a human services and nonprofits panel about NYDIS’ services in New York City. After the conference, they took the opportunity to visit three evacuee families that had returned to the island – as well as, checking in to assess the remaining unmet needs of 27 families in Maunabo, a community previously visited by NYC-Puerto Rico Long Term Recovery Group members.
With clothing vouchers and goods donated by Delivering Good and WHY NOT CARE, our staff distributed $4,200 in vouchers and new clothing to 16 households as well as hundreds of articles of new clothing and footwear to and additional 14 households.
